Facts:
Back in 2018, my clients were in St. Pete Beach on vacation with family. They were both 18-years-old at the time and stole some items from a boutique. After they returned home, they received notification from the Pinellas Clerk of Court that they had been charged with Petit Theft and needed to appear in court for arraignment. At the time, neither of them had the means to return to Pinellas County. After they failed to appear, the Judge issued warrants for their arrest. Seven years later, they contacted me in hopes of resolving this.

The Goal:
Both of my clients wished to resolve these cases and the warrants without having to return to Pinellas County.

The Result:
I reached out to the State Attorney’s Office. I explained their age at the time of the offense, the fact neither of them had been in trouble since, gave some background on what they were up to now, and offered to pay any outstanding restitution. The State agreed to withdraw the warrant and dismiss the petit theft charges in exchange for my clients paying the outstanding court costs. Neither of them ever had to step foot back in Pinellas County, let alone turn themselves in to jail, or appear in court.
