Facts:
My client moved to Florida a few months before the incident. She moved in with her ex-boyfriend. She was struggling with mental health issues and being away from her family. One evening, she got into a verbal argument with him about spending time with someone else. During the argument, she slapped him and spit on him. The police were called and she admitted it all. The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office arrested her for domestic battery.

She did not hire me immediately. In fact, she waited until the prosecutor had already filed the charge against her. Had I been involved earlier, there would have been a much better chance to get the case dropped.

The Case:
She was planning on moving and wanted the case over with. She had admitted to committing a battery, so I knew I had to minimize the consequences to her.

The Result:
I had her apply for the BIP or Batterer’s Intervention Program. It lasts for one year. During that time, she has to complete 29 anger management classes. At the end of the year, the charge gets dismissed and she will not have a crime on her record.
