Facts of the DUI Stop

Our client was stopped by Gulfport Police Department for having an expired tag. The tag had been expired for three months and our client had simply forgotten to renew it. He was pulled over at 54th St. S and Gulfport Blvd. S. in Gulfport, Florida.
According to the police, he was unsteady on his feet, had to lean on his car for balance, and was confused. He was asked to perform field sobriety tests and he refused to do them. He was arrested for DUI and then he also refused to take the intoxilyzer. Our client was charged with a first time DUI.

The DUI Case

I had our client immediately enroll and complete DUI school and the victim impact panel. He enrolled in the DROP program and had to complete an additional 20 hours of community service. Once those conditions were complete, the State Attorney’s Office agreed to reduce the DUI to a reckless driving charge. He had to pay a fine of $583, complete a couple other conditions, and he will be off of probation very shortly.

The reduced charge protected his record and his driver’s license. It was a good resolution to the charge and our client was appreciative of our work.
